What has been the most challenging part of your job recently? And, have you made any changes to try and solve some of those issues?
The most challenging part of my job is helping prospective customers understand that cheaper HVACR services typically leads to a more money spent in the long run (This is due to equipment failure because of poor maintenance)
I now use current customer recommendations to show new prospective customers how our services compare to others.
What have been the most important steps in your life (schools, jobs, etc.) that have led you to where you are today?
Living on my own in High School and prayer is where it started. Due to tough living circumstances, I knew if I continued residing at home, it would hold me back from completing my dream. This is why I decided to move out, work two part time jobs, and go to high school & an HVACR career center full time.
This caused me to have a strong ambition to succeed. I stayed working in the HVACR industry to put myself through a four year HVACR Engineering Technology program at Ferris State University. Because of my situation, I worked in HVACR to get field experience and went to school for HVACR to get the “book knowledge” at the same time.
After receiving many job offers, I choose to work for Murphy & Miller, Inc. because of their reputation of always taking care of customers and the way they treat their employees. I now have the knowledge & experience to help customers with any HVACR needs that they may have, and a company that can effectively handle any size of work that I come across.
Many people who work within the FM world have to act as ‘leaders’ in their jobs. What do you think makes a good leader, and have you done anything recently that has made you a leader?
In the HVACR industry, a good leader always looks out for the customer first. It should be recognized that the customer is the one who gives us a job and puts food on our plates. So even when a mistake is made, a good leader will always make sure the customer is aware of the situation and happy with the solution. Someone who does not always look out for the customer will only lead the company to failure (Losing customers leads to losing jobs)
As a Sales Engineer I make sure to lead my customers to the best and most cost effective solution to satisfy their needs.
Some poor leaders in the industry guide their customers to the most expensive fix to get an increased one-time commission. My goal is to help customers for the long run and be their “go to” person for years to come, which is why I always try to provide customers with multiple cost effective options to take care of their HVACR needs.
A year from now, what will you have hoped to accomplish, professionally or personally?
I hope to develop a larger customer base, and continually exceed the needs of all my customers by consistently providing honesty, responsive & friendly customer service, and strong knowledge of the industry.
